Invasive Species Advisory Committee
ISAC is a group of non-federal experts and stakeholders established and mandated by Executive Order (EO) 13112 to provide advice to The National Invasive Species Council (NISC) on invasive species-related issues.
ISAC Members are appointed by the Secretary of the Interior, with extensive input from the other NISC member departments and agencies; and may serve a maximum of two terms, each three years in length. ISAC members are not paid for their service. Its expertise represents a wide variety of interests from academia, industry, and the private sector.
Chartered under the Federal Advisory Committee Act (FACA). ISAC generally holds at least two meetings per year. All meetings are open to the public, and minutes of each meeting are available to the public for review (see ISAC Charter and ISAC Bylaws.)
Since its creation in 1999, ISAC has provided valuable input to NISC and has produced several documents to assist Federal agencies in providing guidance on invasive species challenges. In addition to providing crucial input to the drafting of the 2001 and 2008-2012 Invasive Species National Management Plan.
NISC is actively involved in the six (6) subcommittees under ISAC:
- Early Detection and Rapid Response
- Control and Management
- Research and Information Management
- Communication, Education and Outreach
- Organizational Collaboration
Participants in the subcommittees are from Federal and non-federal entities, and are mandated by FACA to report to the full ISAC.
